About the Department

Background of Accounting and Finance Department

Woldia University Department of Accounting and Finance has been contributing towards meeting the country’s demand for trained human resource in the areas of accounting and finance since its establishment in 2004E.C in the name of the Department of Accounting and Finance.

  • The Department runs both graduate and undergraduate programs namely:
  • BA in Accounting and Finance (Regular and Extension);
  • MSc in Accounting and Finance (Regular and Extension);

The Department has currently 265 students in the regular and 19 in the extension program in the undergraduate Accounting and Finance program. There are also 37 extension MSc students in the Accounting and Finance program.

In addition to running its own programs, the department offers service courses to other departments within the college, namely, the department of business management, department of marketing management, and department of economics. Outside the college of Business and economics, the department offers courses to the students of construction and technology management, real Property management and agricultural economics.

Vision

The vision of the accounting and finance department at Woldia University (WDU) is to be one of the top ten departments’ departments in Ethiopian universities for both undergraduate and graduate students.

The Accounting and Finance Department has the mission:

  • Conduct problem solving research and community services in accounting and finance
  • Create a supportive culture within the department

Goals

The goals of the Accounting and Finance department at Woldia University (WDU) include:

  • Preparing students: Provide students with the skills and knowledge to pursue a career in accounting and finance, and to advance to further study
  • Developing instructors: Attract and retain qualified instructors
  • Contributing to the community: Make meaningful contributions to the professional and academic communities at the national, regional, and international
